Did you see the headline? If another boatload of “peace activists” leaving Italy reaches Israel, U.S. military forces will be sent to help Israel? Yeah, okay, I didn’t see that headline either. But if I close my eyes, I can almost see it. After all, Obama’s new counterterrorism policy unveiled last week has given me hope that something along those lines could happen . . . in my dreams. In Obamaworld it will never happen as substance has yet to back his rhetoric. But, if Obama were going to live up to his talk, U.S. military aid would be on its way to Israel right now.
Last week John Brennan, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism uveiled Obama’s approach to meeting the “distinct challenges” of the 21st century. The most immediate challenge, Brennan said was, “First, destroying al-Qaeda and its extremist affiliates, and second, the longer-term challenge of confronting violent extremism generally, including the political, economic and social forces that can sometimes put individuals on the path toward militancy.”
Brennan continued to say, “The President’s strategy is clear and precise. Our enemy is al-Qaeda and its terrorist affiliates. For it was al-Qaeda who attacked us so viciously on 9/11 and whose desire to attack the United States, our allies, and our partners remains undiminished. And it is its affiliates who have taken up al-Qaeda’s call to arms against the United States in other parts of the world . . . The President’s strategy is unequivocal with regard to our posture. The United States of America is at war. We are at war against al-Qaeda and its terrorist affiliates . . . the United States will disrupt, dismantle, and ensure a lasting defeat of al-Qaeda and violent extremist affiliates.”
Could it be any clearer? If the President were actually going to live up to his own words, our military would already be at the side of the IDF. Israel was just attacked by terrorists. Organizing and participating in the “aid” flotilla was the Turkish IHH (Insani Yardim Vakfi “humanitarian relief fund”). IHH is a radical Islamic organization, established in 1992 by a member of the Turkish Refah Party and formally registered in Istanbul in 1995. It has direct ties with al-Qaeda. It also has ties to Hamas and Hezbollah, which the U.S. seems to just shrug at these days. But al-Queda? According to Obama, that’s a different story. We will destroy them because they are bent on destroying us and our allies. Like I said, it’s a nice dream.
Incidentally, Brennan’s speech, which is posted on the official website of the White House, spells al-Qaeda two different ways. If they can’t even decide how to spell it, imagine how proficient they will be in destroying it.

As anti-Israel aid convoy nears Gaza, the government responds

Richard Goldstone must be feeling proud today. After all it is the winds of the U.N. Goldstone Report driving the Freedom Flotilla into the harbor of Gaza. Perception is often considered reality. And there is no greater example of perception trumping reality than the idea that Israel has caused a humanitarian crisis in Gaza and that ships full of international aid must come to the rescue.
Noble Peace Laureate, Mairead Maguire, who is participating in the Freedom Flotilla, added to the perception of crisis in her piece "Tribute to the People of Gaza." Maguire writes, "In 2007 Israel commenced its devastating blockade of the strip. Essentially the blockade represents a draconian policy by Israel. A minimum amount of basic subsistence goods are allowed to enter the strip with the intention of holding a malnourished population just short of outright starvation." She ends by saying, "This trip will again highlight Israel's criminal blockade and illegal occupation." Not once in her pontificating piece did she mention the criminal and illegal activities of Hamas, who are the real reason Israel denies carte blanche entry of all shipments into Gaza.
Trying his best to counter the propaganda, Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said, "The aid convoy is violent propaganda against Israel, and Israel will not allow its sovereignty to be threatened in any way, in any place - land, air or sea. There is no humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Despite Hamas' war crimes against Israeli citizens and the thousands of rockets fired at Israeli towns, Israel continues to respond in the most humane way possible."
In the short message below, Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Yigal Palmor also tries to dismantle the perception that Israel denies the people of Gaza humanitarian aid. Palmor reminds the world that over a million tons of aid have been allowed into Gaza since 2009. That's almost a ton of aid for each man, woman, and child in Gaza. One would think that such facts would take the wind out of the flotilla sails. But the Goldstone gale will most likely prevail for a very long time.
